The 13th Austrian Cycling Summit took place in Vienna on April 3-5, 2022. Over 500 participants from Austria and other countries provided information and exchanged ideas at the expert conference on cycling. Among others, two European projects Danube Cycle Plans and SABRINA were presented at the conference.

"I'm glad that there are people like you in Austria who are involved professionally, politically or on a voluntary basis with climate-friendly transport in general and with cycling as a means of transport in particular," with these words the Austrian Federal President Alexander Van der Bellen welcomed the conference guests.

 

Danube Cycle Plans: How to achieve more people cycling in the Danube Region?

Two Danube Transnational Programme projects, the Danube Cycle Plans and SABRINA were presented on the second day of the conference. The event was attended by representatives of Austria, Bulgaria, Czechia, Hungary, Romania, Slovenia, Serbia which are partners in these projects. „This event was organized not only for exchanging experience between the countries. We aim to prepare the Danube Cycling Strategy which should integrate them into a common plan,“ explained Willy Raimund from Environment Agency Austria (Umweltbundesamt AT) who is a lead partner of the Danube Cycle Plans project. 1.5hr block of presentations and discussions was moderated by Andreas Friedwagner from Verracon, a Viennese mobility expert who was involved in the development of the Pan-European Masterplan for Cycling Promotion, one of the topics of the workshop.

A lively discussion came after the presentations, the participants of which were interested in foreign experience in legislation, investment in safe cycling infrastructure and promotion opportunities.

About Radgipfel 2022

The colorful program of the bike summit started on Sunday, April 3. The City of Vienna hosted the bike ride RADpaRADe as well as the largest bike festival in Europe, the Argus Bike Festival.

On Monday 4th and Tuesday 5th April, there was a varied supporting programme to the conference in the city: in the evening, a conference party in cooperation with Nextbike, and also exciting excursions and an expo. Experts from the fields of science and administration as well as representatives of politics and NGOs were invited to discuss and develop solutions for including bicycle in our daily routine. This Cycling Summit also addresses people who are involved in NGOs, in order to get in touch with experts from other professions.
