Key aspects and outcomes of the ENERGY BARGE project were presented at the European workshop on “Trends and Prospects of Med/Pharma Biotechnologies in Europe: Towards Strengthening Regional Cooperation Including CEE Countries” that was held on 3-4 June 2019 in Bratislava, Slovakia. The event was jointly organised by UCM in Trnava and ICARST Bratislava together with other international organisations (JRC-EC Brussels, ICGEB and CEI, Trieste, Italy).
More than 90 experts from 16 European countries participated, including 10 Central and East European countries. More than 28 lectures, 11 panel discussion contributions were presented together with 20 posters. The topics of the workshop were related to the field biotechnology with the focus on medicinal and pharmaceutical biotechnologies. Moreover, other related issues were also discussed such as the transformation of biomass into added value products (especially natural bioactive compounds potentially usable in pharma and medical sector) as well as energy production from biomass.
ENERGY BARGE was part of the poster session. Especially the mapping of biomass resources, opportunities of its transport and the related database attracted interest of other experts in the broad field of biotechnologies and led to the interest to evaluate possibilities of setting up the future cooperation proposals on evaluation of various options for the transformation of biomass (including waste) both into added value products and on the development and transfer of related biotechnologies.
