coop MDD - Workshop for local fishermen was held in Virovitica-Podravina County, Croatia

On 22nd October 2018, within the framework of the coop MDD project, a workshop titled "Activities and measures for the protection of species and habitats with a goal of improving their status - the role of the local population in the protection of European mudminnow (Umbra krameri)" was organized by the Public Institution for Management of Protected Parts of Nature and Ecological Network in Virovitica-Podravina County at the Information and Education Centre-Hostel “Drava Story” in Noskovci, Croatia.

    

The workshop was attended by local fishermen, representatives of Hrvatske vode, representatives of the County Road Administration of the Virovitica-Podravina County, members of the coop MDD project team from the Public Institution, and experts from BIOTA and GEONATURA.

After the introduction by Tatjana Arnold Sabo, director of the Public Institution, Dušan Jelić presented the European mudminnow, problems in the protection of the species, suggestions for activities that could be carried out in cooperation with the local population, especially fishermen, as well as the improvement of its protection status. Workshop was also an opportunity to present the idea of a handbook for fishermen from Virovitica-Podravina County that will be developed by experts in collaboration with the Public Institution and local fishing associations.

The final workshop in the series will be held in May 2019.
