do not forget to join us at the final stakeholder conference

We are looking forward to our final stakeholder conference. The hybrid event will take place on 12 and 13 May 2021. Croatian Forest Research Institute as event organiser will host the physical event in Croatia at the premises of Hunting Lodge Peski on the first day. The second day is dedicated to DanubeForestHealth training and will be only via Zoom.

During the conference we would like to present major results and contributions of the REFOCuS project on strengthening riparian forest resilience. With the conference we want to support our stakeholders with scientifically-based and practically applicable knowhow on riparian forest and conservation management.

You may find the agenda here and register for the event here.

REGIONAL GENE BANK OF KEY RIPARIAN SPECIES SECURES THE FUTURE OF RIPARIAN FORESTS IN MURA-DRAVA-DANUBE BIOSPHERE RESERVE

The gene bank is hosted and managed by the Croatian Forest Research Institute in Jastrebarsko, Croatia. So far, the partners have collected seeds of black alder, pedunculate oak and narrow-leaved ash, which are among the project’s target species. In addition, colleagues from the Institute of Lowland Forestry and Environment have established a clonal archive of European black poplar which holds cuttings from Croatian, Slovenian and Serbian parts of the Mura-Drava-Danube Biosphere Reserve.

CHECK OUT OUR PLANTING MATERIAL USE AND CONSERVATION GUIDELINES

When natural riparian forest regeneration fails, it is important to have quality and available forest reproductive material to support the regeneration. REFOCuS produced guidelines that provide practitioners with both general guidelines on how to produce forest reproductive material as well as specific protocols for seedling production of our target tree species (black alder, narrow-leaved ash, common ash, European black poplar, poplar hybrids, and other non-native poplar species, pedunculate oak, European white elm, and field elm).
