    The area involved in the program lays on the shores of the Danube River, connection that has influenced its development, both from a cultural and an economical point of view. For the countries involved, the Danube river has represented an instrument for creating a shared heritage.
    Coherently with the EUSDR Action Plan, the project aims at promoting culture and tourism (Issue 3) to build on cultural diversity as strength of the Danube Region (Cultural heritage, action 1) by supporting contemporary art in the region, and to establish the Danube Region as important European tourist destination by developing an environmentally-friendly tourism strategy for the whole of the region (including cities and communities, cultural heritage, nature and economy).

    (main and specific objectives to be achieved)

    The key to the project is the role of culture and art in strategic planning processes for the redevelopment and enhancement of the Danube region as a Tourist Destination. These processes shall be alternative to those governing mass tourisms and will be intended to promote the attractiveness of lesser-known areas enabling them to attract high-quality tourism. The project aims at being the fulcrum of an integrated strategy conceived to generate new and original impulses for spreading creativity and innovation to all sectors, to initiate long lasting changes the area.

    Main results and core outputs

    - Promote policies and experiences of integration between culture, art and territory;
    - Support the role of culture as a tool of touristic growth, mainly by analyzing, qualifying, integrating and innovating the touristic offer in the area;
    - Define and manage a shared brand, strengthening relations between the two rivers of the Danube and its internal areas;
    - Promote relations between lesser-known areas and creating a new perception of places

    Main foreseen activities

    - Mapping of arts related activities in the area
    - Analysis of the cross-border identity of the area in relation to art
    - Developing protocols for the promotion of art-based tourism in the area

    Innovative character of the project idea

    aims at creating a common network for the management and development of contemporary art in the border area, as an instrument of tourist and local economic development. This goal will be achieved not only through the creation of a digital interactive map to highlight the nodes and the related accommodation facilities, but also through capacity building activities to improve the know-how of local operators in order to create more sustainable and high added value jobs. The project will increment the coordination among stakeholders in the area, to promote tourist location left outside the main flows and to reduce the negative impact of mass tourism on the cross border area's environment.
