Seed Money Facility Call

What is Seed money Facility?

One of the direct financial supporting schemes that the Danube Transnational Programme (DTP) offers to support the EU Strategy for the Danube Region (EUSDR) in reaching its targets is the establishment of a seed money facility, managed directly by the DTP Managing Authority/Joint Secretariat (MA/JS).

This instrument is meant to provide support for the development of complex strategic transnational projects in some Priority Area of the EUSDR, regardless the financial instrument to be addressed by the project developed, be it national, mainstream EU, transnational or cross border or by any other public or private investor (such as IFIs) or public-private partnership.

The definition above considers the type of common projects that are supported by the DTP:

  • Complex – projects which are comprehensive of different actions/activities meant to address wide scopes;
  • Strategic – relevant for the Danube area, where the relevance is linked to core needs expressed by the Danube countries and endorsed by the Monitoring Committee;
  • Transnational – the effect of the project should go beyond the local/national need and address the wider Danube area in a macro-regional approach.

The submitted proposals were to apply for funding from any other EU, national or other funding sources. The development phase funded by the Seed Money Facility covered the analysis of the needs and challenges addressed by the main project, the preparation of the work plan for the main project, the setting up of the partnership as well as the analysis of the possible funding instruments for the main project.

A launch event about the SMF was organised 27th September in Vienna - find all the presentations here.

The Seed Money Facility Call

On the 2nd October 2017, a call for proposals for the Seed Money Facility has been launched by the DTP. Potential applicants were advised to carefully check the availability of the different funds and potential launching of new calls starting from 2019, already from the starting of the preparation of the seed money project, as the main goal was to actually implement in practice the developed projects for the benefit of the Danube Region. The deadline for submitting the seed money project was on the 7th December 2017.

19 projects were approved under this call.
