About future programme

The process of designing future Danube programme 2021-2027 has formally started in 2019 by establishing a Task Force (TF) committee composed of the representatives of 14 Member countries, which are involved in the programme in the next programming period.

The TF is leading the process of designing the programme by holding regular discussions and taking formal decisions on the programme's content prepared by the Managing Authority/Joint Secretariat (MA/JS) based on an independent Analysis of Territorial Challenges, Needs and Potentials of the Danube Region, the Interreg Regulation for the 2021-2027 period and the feedback from more than 500 contributions from the public consultation.

The following are the priorities for the new period: 1. A Smarter Danube Region, 2. A greener, low-carbon Danube Region, 3. A more social Danube Region, 4. A better cooperation governance in the Danube Region.
At the 10th TF meeting, held on 13 December 2021, Member states approved the final draft version of the cooperation programme, taking another step forward in the programming process. You can read the draft programme here
In the final step, the programme needs to be submitted to the European Commission (EC) for approval. We expect this to happen early next year, with its final adoption expected in June 2022. Before that, we are planning to present the new Danube Region Programme in a series of online events and announcing the first call for applications in April.
If you would like to learn more about the focus of the new programme, you can watch the recording of our 2021 annual event, with a short introduction of topics to be supported in the 2021-2027 programming period by our Project Officers, available here (start the video at 2:33:00).
