InnoHPC - Workshop BCCI, Hungary "To compete you must compute"

Regional InnoHPC workshop was organised by Budapest Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Budapest, 4 September 2017. The main objective of the workshop was to raise awareness of HPC technology application amongst SMEs. Besides, the workshop aimed to review the status of HPC application in Hungary and to gain feedback and suggestions related to the activities of InnoHPC project, co-funded by the European Union through the Danube Transnational Programme and by the Hungarian State.
The event attempted to provide a forum for all the relevant stakeholders, including the industrial, academic and governmental sectors. Participants represented innovative SMEs, business associations and clusters, higher education and research institutions, and policy makers.
The first part of the event was dedicated to gain insight into HPC technology and application through orientation presentations. Mr. Tamás Máray, representative of Governmental Information-Technology Development Agency in Hungary gave an overview of HPC technology and emphasized its value for promoting knowledge-based economy and competitiveness. The presentation by Mr. Adrian Jackson, representative of Edinburgh Parallel Computing Centre, highlighted the opportunities of the SME HPC Adoption Programme (SHAPE), the shared projects and best practices of HPC application for SMEs were received with great interest. Mr. Paul Graham the coordinator of the SHAPE programme has joined the discussion online to assist in answering the questions of the audience.
Through the moderated workshop session, the key aspects of HPC application in Hungary such as research and development orientation, competences and infrastructure, policy framework, network and cooperation were thoroughly discussed by the participants.
