ENERGY BARGE - Presentations of the National Workshop in Bulgaria are online
17-08-2017
In the course of the National Workshop of the ENERGY BARGE project held in Bulgaria on 28th June, the current situation as well as the potentials of the energetic use of biomass in Bulgaria with a view to the integration of logistics along the Danube were discussed with the participants by means of numerous short presentations. Bulgaria is currently one of the largest electricity exporters in South Eastern Europe. The share of renewable energies in total energy consumption is about 18% in Bulgaria, with high potential for further expansion being seen, which is also due to a possible increase in energy use of biomass.
It was noted that Bulgaria has a high unused biomass potential and that the number of stakeholders, seeking different utilization paths for different biomass forms, is steadily growing. However, not all products and intermediate products are suitable for transport over long distances, so that first processing steps would already be necessary at a local level in order to increase the transportability and thus make the Danube as a transport route for further routes economically viable. In addition, a higher share of added value could be achieved at local level, which might also increase the acceptance of the local population and other local actors.
