CeliVita, one of the CD SKILLS project partners, gave a lecture at a monthly gathering of professional project managers, organized online by Project Management Institute Croatia.
We talked about coeliac disease with aim to raise awareness about this medicine chameleon, a very unrecognized disease and to draw attention to the challenges faced by patients in everyday life. We used "Project Management Institute Dictionary" to illustrate similarities between everyday living with celiac disease - which comes down to risk management and project risk management. We took an opportunity to presented the CD SKILLS project, as one step forward to making life with CD easier.

Risk management in everyday coeliac patient’s life:
QUANTITATIVE AND QUALITATIVE RISK ANALYSIS
A study conducted in 2007 concluded that most coeliac patients can tolerate up to 10 mg of gluten a day, without harmful consequences, which is equivalent to a gluten bread crumb.
Very high. Gluten is found in a large number of industrial products; the preparation of gluten-free food is difficult in a gluten-contaminated environment.
TIME OF RISK
Every day, in all situations where people with coeliac disease choose what to eat.
Very high. Too high amount of gluten can trigger a systemic, immune-mediated reaction and leave harmful effects on the health of patients.
Malignant and non-malignant complications of the untreated disease or poorly maintained diet
Nutrition, as a physiological need, but also as a a source of pleasure and an opportunity to socialize
PERSON RESPONSIBLE FOR RISK MANAGEMENT
Coeliac patients, parents of a child with coeliac disease, educators, teachers, educational institutions, nursing homes, hospitals, food producers/caterers, local government, state
PLANNED RISK RESPONSE: "avoid and "mitigate"
Carry food with you, read food declarations, be aware of contamination, educate, work on inclusive environment, implement positive policies
Not so much of a fall-back plan: Stay hungry
EXPECTED IMPACT ON QUALITY OF LIFE
Very high impact on social, private and professional life. Great impact on finances
