16-12-2020

Meadows in the National Park Šumava were discussed at the stakeholder meeting organised by Ametyst NGO on 19th November 2020. Due to the COVID-19 lockdown we met on-line. The representatives of National Park Šumava, Ministry of Environment of the Czech Republic, Agency of Nature and Landscape Protection, South Bohemia Region, Masaryk University, South Bohemia University, NGO Juniperia and other experts attended the meeting. Stefan Fuchs from the University of Vienna presented the results of the analysis of ecosystem services. Eva Volfová from Ametyst presented the outputs of the project in Czech part of Pilot Region 1. Historical development of selected meadow enclaves or current management of meadows in Šumava National Park were presented as well as problems with methodology of mapping habitat types, land-intake of meadows and appropriate assessment. The actual status of meadows is not satisfied not only because of the long history of abandonment but also because the lack of concern in the strategy of NP.  The final discussion was fruitful and showed directions to support the importance of meadows and their active management and increase ecological connectivity.
