EcoVeloTour - Free minds in startegy development - involve the students!

The students' research and ideas also help the strategic planning of the Rákos stream for cycling and ecotourism. The strategies are prepared by Corvinus University of Budapest lecturers and external experts as part of the EcoVeloTour project.

Within the framework of the online seminar in Tourism Planning and Regional Development at the Corvinus University of Budapest, 27 second-year students majoring in tourism and hospitality got acquainted with the features and development opportunities of the Rákos stream in May 2020. After a presentation and some videos about the target area and its stakeholder involvement, students were given two practical assignments: they looked up best practices in ecotourism and cycling tourism, and then developed a tourism product or communication strategy based on their own ideas.

The staff of the Department of Tourism and external experts are working intensively on the ecotourism and cycling tourism strategies of the region until the end of September 2020, at the same time they implement the university’s goal to get the students to work on real projects in seminars and put the results of their work into practice. Groups of 3-4 students were looking at domestic and foreign best practices that could be used in the target area, one of which was “tailored” to the Rákos stream, so they organized, for example, a bicycle tour combined with a museum visit and designed a visitor centre for cyclists.

The students’ own development ideas ranged from planning the marketing communication necessary for the region (website, Facebook and Instagram pages called Hungarian Green Experiences) to innovative cycling playgrounds. The feasible and sustainable ideas of the students will be incorporated into the strategic action plan.
