REDISCOVER - We mourn the passing of Aunt Szidi

16-03-2020

It is with our deepest sorrow that we inform you of the passing of Aunt Szidi, our beloved member of the Jewish Community in Szeged. Aunt Szidi, the former head of the Jewish Nursing Home in Szeged was 95 years old.
Mrs Szidónia Krausz Herman Sámuel aka Aunt Szidi was born in a small village, in Ungtarnóc (Carpathian Ruthenia) in an Orthodox Jewish family in 1924. She was the third child in the family, worked a lot, and learned a lot from her mother about kosher cuisine. After the war, she graduated from high school and the family moved to Hungary in 1968. Aunt Szidi was looking for work, and finally, she was hired by the Jewish Community's Nursing Home, where she worked for a year as a maid. In time the community realized that she can get along with elder people and that they loved her back, so Aunt Szidi became the leader of the nursing home - for thirty years, until 1998. After that, she still helped in the kosher kitchen. He taught Eszter Salamon, who became her successor in the kosher kitchen.
A life so beautifully lived deserves to be beautifully remembered. Please join us to mourn the passing of Aunt Szidi.
