07-11-2018
The city of Varaždin has been included, as the official partner within the CityWalk project, to mark the European Mobility Week which took place from 16th to 22nd September this year. The central event of marking was the Day without a car in Varaždin (September 22nd 2018). On this occasion the traffic in the city centre has been closed for all motor vehicles. For one day Varaždin city centre was open only for pedestrians and cyclists.

On that day, the traffic for motor vehicles was closed in Kukuljevićeva and Šenoina streets, and on these locations was realized a series of entertainment, sporting, educational and promotional events. One of these was measuring the number of pedestrians on the route at which the car will not be driven on that day (for the purpose of Urban mobility plan production in the city of Varaždin). Also, City of Varaždin distributed promotional materials to stakeholders (pedestrians and cyclists) who participated in the given event.
The program has been running all day. Early in the morning children's cycling race was organized. The rewards have been given away to best cyclists and healthy breakfast was distributed to all stakeholders. Also, a travel lecture, a movie, and a music happening were organized during the day.
In the end, the central event called Critical Mass was organized, a bicycle ride around the centre, which started at 6 pm.
Varaždin was the 13th city in Croatia to join the celebration. The City of Varaždin and Tourist Board Varaždin involved from the desire to activate these activities by strengthening the image of Varaždin as a city of pedestrians and bicycles.
