REFOCuS - WORKSHOP ON PLUS TREE SELECTION IN CROATIA

31-10-2018

A three-day workshop for project partners took place in Đurđevac (Croatia) from 23rd to 25th October 2018 in the organization of Croatian Forest Research Institute. About 20 forestry experts participated in the workshop with the purpose to establish common criteria and procedures for selecting plus trees in project partner countries: Slovenia, Austria, Hungary, Serbia and Croatia.

On the first-day partners discussed common criteria for plus trees selection. The next two days were dedicated to the visiting of the demonstration sites, where partners selected the potential plus trees for narrow leaved ash (Fraxinus angustifolia Vahl.), penduculate oak (Quercus robur L.), black alder (Alnus glutinosa (L.) Gaertn.) and european white elm (Ulmus laevis Pall.). These plus trees will later provide quality reproduction material for the production of clones and establishment of clone seed plantations. After the workshop partners have to repeat the selection of plus trees in their respective countries in the area of Mura-Drava-Danube Biosphere Reserve.

The next REFOCuS meeting will be held in 2019 in the organization of the Institute of Lowland Forestry and Environment in Novi Sad.
