CityWalk - Jane's Walk in Szeged: Walking with yellow smiley-balloons and sharing personal memories
11-05-2018
On 4 May 2018, under the initiative and guidance of CityWalk partner First Hungarian Responsible Innovation Association Szeged joined the global initiative called Jane’s Walk for the 2nd time. Jane’s Walk was organized in 267 towns worldwide this year.
The main philosophy of the Jane’s Walk appeared right on the starting scene, at the Dugonics square: after a short introduction provided by the organizers, the 20 participants – from different age-groups – added their exciting and sometimes surprising experiences to the basic and well-known information on Dugonics square. They chatted about the replacement of the Dugonics-statue and its related history, the importance of Szeged in creating the Hungarian word “kör” (circle), and gained numerous new information on the fish market, the street names and the old city bridge.
During the second part of the walk, the walkers chatted not only at the previously determined stops but also during walking: they actively talked about their memories in association with the most beautiful parts of Szeged. The Szeged Jane’s Walk proved that loving Szeged has extremely strong connecting impact: at the beginning of the walk, the participants did not know each other, but at the last stop, at the Klauzál square they said goodbye to each other as acquaintances with planning to walk together in the beginning of next May, too.
