CityWalk - CityWalk partners learning on a sustainable mobility development in Danube area

Weiz, a city in East Styria considered an industrial city due to several industrial companies, was the location of the CityWalk project partners meeting hosted from April 23–25, 2018 by project partner Municipality of Weiz. The focus of the meeting was on the transnational learning and exchange of experiences in a field of sustainable mobility.

Partners and thematic experts met in the Energy Innovation Center W.E.I.Z. for a technical expert workshop interlinked with the capitalization and capacity building workshop. Its goal was accomplished: identifying common challenges among the Danube area in the field of Sustainable Transport Solutions and Mobility (Thematic Pole 6), with a special focus on contributing to the common recommendations and solutions of the EU Strategy for the Danube Region Priority Area 1b - to improve mobility and multimodality.
The meeting started with a welcome speech by the mayor of Weiz Erwin Eggenreich. Several mobility planning experts followed with their thematic presentations: Bela Kézy, urban development expert, presented the issue of the autonomous cars and their effect on urban mobility, Dieter Schwab presented the WalkSpace Association, Harald Messner and Martin Auer presented the e5 programme and Ever-Green e-Car sharing, Rafael Bramreiter presented the Project WoodCar.

The second part was dedicated to capitalization – two projects approved by the Danube Transnational Programme were presented.
Matej Gojčič from Regional Development Agency of Ljubljana Urban Region (RRA LUR) introduced the LinkingDanube project - Linking transnational, multimodal traveller information and journey planners for environmentally-friendly mobility in the Danube Region. LinkingDanube tackles the problem of insufficient provision of cross-border traveller information on public transport, particularly considering cross-border commuting and mobility in rural areas. It especially focuses on connecting less accessible areas in the Danube region by linking alternative public transport services and integrating demand transport data into the services. The overall project objective is to foster environmentally-friendly mobility options and balanced accessibility in the Danube Region.
Barbara Kulmer from the Municipality of Weiz presented the project CHESTNUT - Comprehensive elaboration of strategic plans for sustainable urban transport. Project is contributing to the development of a better-connected and interoperable environmentally friendly and safe transport system in functional urban areas of Danube Region.
Project partners continued their work the next day with the presentation of the stages, conclusions, problems and solutions on local walkability planning, followed by the introductions of the good and bad practises of walkability and sustainable transport mobility cases gathered from their country. Partners also discussed at the project communication challenges and tasks, and presented their city pilot plans. Happy with a successful and very productive meeting partners agreed to follow on the project steps and accomplish all work package leaders expectations until the next meeting, hosted by the Regional Development Agency of the Pilsen Region in Czech Republic, in November 2018.
