CityWalk - 1st projects LSG workshop in Municipality of Weiz

On February 16, 2018 Municipality of Weiz organized their 1st Local Stakeholder Group meeting of the CityWalk project with the aim to start on the elaboration of local Walkability plan in Weiz. Mayor, Vice Mayor, experts and other stakeholders attended the workshop guided by project manager Barbara Kulmer.

After a short introduction of the CityWalk project, as part of the mobility strategy of Weiz, the new external expert Dieter Schwab from the WalkSpace organization was presented. WalkSpace is a Vienna based organization specialized on walking solutions and walkability checks for municipalities. The daily business and procedures of WalkSpace match with the actions planed in the CityWalk project. Mr. Schwab and his WalkSpace team are contracted to support the CityWalk project in Weiz for the rest of the project duration.

The work carried out so far was presented to the stakeholders. The measures to raise awareness of walkability and the CityWalk project activities to be carried out in Weiz were also discussed. It is planned to organize walk-shops, to work on a walkability index of Weiz and produce a local walkability plan.

After all received information the participants were able to articulate their thoughts about walkability and how to implement new measures in Weiz. All agreed that awareness-raising measures should be implemented as well in schools during this semester.

Barbara Kulmer and Tanja Kortus invited the members of stakeholder group to participate in the CityWalk training seminar which will be held in Weiz at the end of April.
