Recently, a new type of coronavirus that caused the COVID-19 pandemic was discovered. This virus is called SARS-CoV-2 (Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome CoronaVirus 2). Despite many fears that SARS-CoV-2 can cause a more severe infection in individuals with immunological traits, there have been no reports suggesting patients with coeliac disease are at increased risk of severe illness from COVID-19 compared to patients without coeliac disease.
