(Needs, main problems or challenges to be addressed)Culture and cultural heritage represent the most important foundation for creating and maintaining identity, belonging and citizenship values.
One of the branches of cultural heritage is also an industrial heritage, as a consequence of industrialisation from late 18th century.
The industrialization shape scenery, towns, people’s life, nations and habits. Danube territory is well known for its multiethnicism and diversity. Moreover, its attractiveness also lies in the diversity of industrial heritage.
The project will deal with intangible heritage and its influence on greater involvement with everyday life of the destination. Besides, cultural tourism and with thus industrial tourism has often been described as the best model for local tourism development or the tourism that brings financial and social benefits for local community.
Objectives

- valorisation of industrial heritage
- adding a new content to industrial heritage and making it narrative
- revival and sustainable development of industrial heritage
Main results and core outputs
Improved frameworks, capacities and solutions for sustainable tourism in the Danube region based on protection and sustainable use of cultural/industrial heritage and resources in order to reap multiple benefits in terms of economic development, environmental protection and quality of life.
The project will create synergy and intensive collaboration between local and regional stakeholders, support activities in the fields of cultural exchange and, increase cultural diversity, achieve cooperation and communication between existing industrial heritage sites, museums, art schools, individuals, cultural and other associations, improve frameworks for marketing of tourist products and raise the awareness on the benefits of cultural diversity with emphasis on industrial heritage in the Danube Region.
Main foreseen activities
- strategy for active community participation in order to achieve and maintain sustainability of tourism product (interpretation of industrial heritage, how to make tourist experience more educational, emotional, social and interactive with the place, its living culture and local people)
- pilot activities – e.g. how to turn shift from traditional forms of cultural tourism to new, creative experiences, undertaking creative spectacle activities around existing passive tourist resources, virtual interpretations via Internet, especially social media, etc., agro tourism, eco-tourism and gastro tourism culinary tourism as a niche - the real and authentic value of traditional food is determined by the specific place where it is produced and consumed, establishment or plans for establishment of e.g. heritage interpretation centres, as part of already existed tourist infrastructure, implementation of technology in the cultural heritage which can reinforce visitor experiences,..
Innovative character of the project idea
