Needs and challenges
(Needs, main problems or challenges to be addressed)The current health and social care system for elders highlights a number of key issues to be considered: old age is accompanied by loneliness, isolation, increased risk of debilitating disease, generating dependence.
Due to these special needs, there are two types of support that can be provided: social and medical services. In these circumstances it is envisaged to initiate and develop a social policy unit for keeping the elderly at home or if this is not possible, ensure necessary support for continuation of life in a social care institution or a health & social care unit.
Objectives
(main and specific objectives to be achieved)The project objective is to increase competences and support social innovation in Danube region by creating a pilot Danube platform able to support joint development of skills and knowledge for implementation of social innovation, innovative learning systems in the area of social services; dual professional education in social professions, e.g. for elderly care and people with special needs; skills development and innovative services in fields of general interest such as migration, health and ageing;
Main results and core outputs
1. Improved capacities, skills and competences to advance social innovation and social & health care services to better meet social needs and further improve the capacities of regions and public institutions to manage new challenges such as those deriving from demographic change, migration and brain drain and to better provide services in the general interest
2. Improved systems for institutional learning and building capacities of public administration to better cope with innovation processes in social & health care systems
3. Improved policy learning and development of practical solutions to better adapt human resources to technological change and market requirements in social & health care systems

Innovative character of the project idea
The project vision is to bridge the social & health care innovation gap between education and training actors, institutions and policy makers at all level, business environment, research organizations, labor market organizations and citizens (in our case patients and elder people). Skilled people play a crucial role in innovation through knowledge they generate, how they adopt and develop existing ideas and through their abilities to learn new competencies and adapt to a changing environment.
