    Needs and challenges
(Needs, main problems or challenges to be addressed)

Modern agriculture is based on a quest for short-term efficiency, economic gain and ecosystem sacrifices. In protected areas (PAs), farmers are challenged to enhance habitats quality through designing farming systems to mimic the structure and function of natural ecosystems. The experts’ team will provide some ways to do so that maintain or increase agricultural output, reduce production costs or enhance the market value of their products while preserving biodiversity, using a common strategy.

    Objectives

    Main results and core outputs

    -

    Main foreseen activities

A1. Assessment of agricultural potential and identifying main types of farming practices in the envisaged areas. Develop a common methodology for assessing the agriculture impact on biodiversity and ecosystem services.
A2. Evaluation, systematization and mapping of agriculture soils within the envisaged N2000 sites/protected areas.
A3. Soil quality monitoring for sustainable development
A4. Improving soil management through knowledge exchange related to innovative environmentally friendly agricultural technologies. Elaborating a best practices guide for ecoagriculture.
