    Needs and challenges
(Needs, main problems or challenges to be addressed)

The historic harbor installations represent a rich cultural resource along the Danube river that need to be harvested and preserved. The lack of information regarding cultural heritage assets and a common strategy to preserve and promote this heritage represent a risk in itself. Iconic harbor installations along the Danube river like docks, fisheries, mills, administrative institutions and commercial agencies (from the early XIX century and the beginning of the XX century) are nowadays suffering from degradation and constant pressure from developments of shipyards and real estate. If promoted and revitalized, the legacy of old harbours could provide inhabitants and visitors with an insight into the history of industrial heritage along the Danube and also could contribute to improve the quality of life and the local and regional tourism. The development of a common approach to revitalize and to promote industrial heritage of Danube harbours will reinforce preservation and re-utilization of industrial heritage.
