    The Danube Wets Ecotour project addresses small and medium-sized protected wetland areas in the Danube River Basin, which are most threatened, because management capacities are insufficient or lacking. These wetlands provide a basis for networking among other destinations in order to advance sustainable tourism (i.e. ecotourism), grow local economies, and promote the long-term protection of ecologically sensitive areas.

    Project aims at formulating a long term development framework for enhancing eco-tourism as a tool for increasing tourist value of the areas.

    Main results and core outputs

    New concepts will be developed together with local entrepreneurs combining wetland experience, transport, accommodation, etc. for different target groups with special attention to disabled visitors.

    Main foreseen activities

    strengthening capacities of wetland administrations, increasing experience exchange, managing the visit and educating visitors, developing common standards, and creating as well as promoting the Danube Wetlands Ecotourism Network.
